FAQ

Q:  Why is Longhorn beef good for my family?

A:  The Longhorn breed was developed over a period of 400 years with the strict supervision of Mother Nature (please see “Longhorn History” page).  They are one of the leanest of all cattle breeds.

Q:  Why is grass fed beef good for my family?

A:  Cattle were designed to eat grass not grain.  Owners of commercial feedlots often use growth hormones, growth antibiotics and excessive amounts of grain to accelerate weight gain.  Our cattle are allowed to reach their maturity in a natural yet less profitable way.  They eat a variety of natural grasses and we don’t use growth hormones or antibiotics.  The result is leaner healthier beef.  You can read more about grass-fed beef at www.eatwild.com

With public concerns about the commercial beef industry more families are returning to the traditional practice of buying beef directly from the farmer or rancher.  In response to this demand, thousands of cattle producers have chosen not to send their cattle to the feedlots.  This is allowing families to enjoy beef the way their grandparents did rather than the way the feedlot owners want us to.

Q:  Why do you only produce ground beef?

A:  Our experience is that everyone who tries our grass fed Longhorn ground beef, says "it’s the best tasting burger they have ever had."  Lean steaks don’t always please the pallet of every guest.  Consumers have been trained by the feed lot owners to appreciate the marbling that is created with grain finishing and growth hormones.  We want every customer to be pleased with our product, so here at Snoqualmie Cattle Company,  we produce only ground beef.  There are several other grass-fed producers in the area that will provide you with custom cutting.  Most meat processors remove the premium cuts and then the rest of the animal is ground into burger.  We instruct the butcher to include all the premium cuts in our ground beef.  This makes our ground beef leaner and better tasting than what can be purchased in the grocery stores.

Q:  How is your SCCo. ground beef packaged?

A:  Our ground beef will arrive to you in fresh, frozen 2# tubes.  Our custom poly food bags are the best available option for two reasons.  1.  Their long, cylinder shape stacks very neatly in the freezer taking up less space than the traditional cut & wrap paper version.  2.  When someone forgets to thaw meat, these are easily thawed by soaking them in warm water for a short amount of time.
